The Detroit Institute of Arts and Detroit Symphony Orchestra today announced operating grants from several local foundations.
The Hudson-Webber Foundation made grants of $1.08 million over four years to each of the two cultural institutions.
The DIA also announced another $800,000 in operating grants, including $300,000 from the Detroit-based McGregor Fund, previously reported by Crain's on July 15; $300,000 from the Detroit-based Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan; and $200,000 from the Detroit-based Matilda R. Wilson Fund.
In its grant announcements, McGregor also announced a $100,000 operating grant to the Detroit Science Center.
The DIA said in a release that the operating grants will support museum operations, to help fund exhibitions, educational programs, community outreach and caring for its art.
“We are very grateful for the generous support shown by these outstanding Michigan foundations,” said DIA Director Graham Beal, in a release.
“They have stepped up at a time when it is difficult for just about all funders to give, and the money will help us continue to provide the array of programs and the museum experience our visitors have come to expect.”
