Detroit Independent Film Festival starts 6-day run
By The Associated Press | March 2, 2010
(AP) — The Detroit Independent Film Festival is kicking off its six-day run.
The new festival opens Tuesday and runs through Sunday at the Burton Theatre, a former school being used as a movie house. The festival had been scheduled to start Wednesday, but organizers added an extra day.
A highlight of the festival is the Michigan Film Awards. They're Saturday, a day before the Academy Awards. The Michigan awards are being given out at the Helen L. DeRoy Auditorium at Wayne State University.
The awards honor independent films and are selected by industry professionals and film critics.
